N Korea sends people abroad to universities etc all the time. Russians can tour there no problem. India can no problem. US and UK people get followed.
Abhijit Iyer-Mitra works for a think tank (i forget which one) and is on many Indian podcasts. He is fluently english and very aware of the world, he goes on multiple trips to different countries around the world. Ask him what it is like to travel and be in N Korea and Afghanistan. He will tell you how he hired security so he wouldnt be kidnapped and ransomed in certain parts of afghanistan and yet taliban leaders would meet with him and he felt completely safe, while he was shitting his pants meeting a taliban leader.
I dont subscribe to everything he says, he presents american politics as well meaning but poorly executed and i feel like he knows better but he has very interesting insights as a brown man from India who has no skin in the american propoganda.
